CEPHEUS
A constellation in the part of the sky referred to as ‘The Sea’. Cepheus was a king in Greek mythology, ruler of Aethiopia. Sailors used to use the stars to navigate their way on long journeys.
King Cepheus is commonly depicted as a regal monarch sitting in his throne. He can be seen holding his arms aloft, praying to the deities for the release of his daughter Andromeda, who had been chained to a rock by the sea god Poseidon.
Since 2016 I have been painting watercolour whales based on Greek Mythology and stories. They encompass the constellations and stars that tell these stories.
My whales have swam away from my studio and found their way into new homes. Each painting is based on a short story from Greek Mythology.
You can find my work in Dingle town also. I make these on big canvases right down to small postcards, prints and paintings.
